  • L'Orcio and Upper State in the New York Times

    Review Here
From the article "The restaurant is housed in a lovely, renovated two-story brick house, now edged with holiday lights, on a commercial stretch of State Street just north of downtown New Haven. Bounded by residential streets, the lively mix of shops, restaurants and human-scale architecture give the area an appealing urban intimacy that reminds me of the city's Wooster Street neighborhood, or New York's West Village."

  • 44 New Parking Spots on Upper State Street

Like many an urban business district parking has long been a concern of the Upper State Street corridor in New Haven. Though it has proved challenging to find the money and space to park more automobiles, the challenge becomes quite simple when it comes to bicycles: buy bike racks and ask the city to install them.

As of today there are 11 new Bike Racks in the Upper State Street corridor between Bradley and East street. Each rack will park 4 bikes. The bike racks were generously donated by members of the Upper State Street Association and installed by a contractor of the City of New Haven.

Upper State Street welcomes the return to Main Street and the return to bicycles and hopes that bicycle commuting will continue to grow in the district. While we continue to look for ways to make it easier to park your automobile on Upper State we hope that you will find it easy enough to park your bike.

  • Pedestrian In-road signs on Upper State

Partially paid for by the city and members of the Upper State Street Association there are three new signs in State Street to let drivers know to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
It's a small step towards making our street more walkable and our corridor more livable.

[Mission]
The Upper State Street Association is an organization of businesses located in the upper State Street corridor of New Haven, CT. Our goal is to provide a cleaner, safer and more desirable Upper State Street for businesses, residents, and visitors through the collaboration and funds of local businesses, property owners and government.

[Vision]
We see the future of Upper State Street as an improved embodiment of what it is today. There are not many that would want to change State Street, but there are many that would love to see improvement. We see a street where thriving businesses and accessible parking are not mutually exclusive of each other. Where pedestrians feel safe to walk from one overpass to the other at anytime of day. Where every vacant building is filled, every piece of pavement is clean, maintained and well lit and every tree and planter is at its most beautiful. We see a street that supports higher volumes of restaurant and bar goers in the evening, working folks during the weekdays, and people looking to relax on the weekends. We see an Upper State Street that is a jewel in the crown of new haven and a model for its surrounding neighborhoods.
